October No Spend Challenge

After the disorganisation of last month, and having to buy stuff like sleeping bags & mats for camp, the credit card has taken a bit of a hammering.  So I'm attempting a No Spend Challenge for October - no spending on anything other than what's budgeted (emergencies excluded).

I've been grocery shopping today (on budget), so the freezer and pantry is full.  I just have to not spend on anything unnecessary.

Having declared that, I did have $18 of overdue fines at the library when I got books out today.  Billy had a DVD & some books that were overdue by a few weeks and I hadn't realised :(

Not spending seems to be getting harder and harder these days. The prices of everything just keep going on up!

good luck! i too had library fines and they were outrageous. we check out books and take them back on a regular weekly schedule, however i'm now noticing that the due dates are all different. some have to be back in 4 days, some in 14, some in 30. i think this is done to help "raise revenue" from unsuspecting (or too busy to get there in 4 days) patrons like me.

We are doing something similar but hopefully easier. October is not buy anything new month for us. We got the idea from Cheapskates. http://www.cheapskates.com.au/pages/default.cfm?page_id=42784

Goodluck

I hope you didn't go camping in this weather. :)

Aah, you should use Newcastle library, kids's cards aren't charged overdue fees. I know Maitland is different though. Also, I have set myself the no spend challenge for October too, besides groceries, petrol, etc. Let us know how you go!

Library fines! Argh. Hate 'em. We have four cards and I've incurred fines on every one.
