"NO"

Such a simple word, but does anyone else need some practice saying it?  Or is it just me?

  • "No, I'm sorry, but I just can't do that in that time frame."
  • "No, I'm sorry, we can't make it to that event, we're too busy."
  • "No, I can't take on another responsibility, I'm doing enough."
  • "No, I'm sorry Prince Charming, but I can't make it to the ball, I'm too busy cleaning cinders!"
I know what my problem is.  I know it stems from a need to be liked and not let people down.  I know it, but it doesn't help me say No!

I've said 'no' to some things lately and the world is still spinning. No thanks, I'm too dangerously tired to drive anywhere today. No, I don't want to spend Christmas day at 3 houses this year (we've chosen dates to spend quality time at each place instead).

Sometimes when we let people down in the short term, it means we can be there for them in the long term.

Sometimes Cinderella would simply rather stay home and clean a closet, than dance at the ball!

Be kind to yourself, you are already liked :)

I eased myself into no.

"That sounds tempting! Let me look at my calendar and get back to you."

I'm a bit busy. How about this? If you can't find anyone else, let me know and I'll see what I can do."

Using these helped give me some breathing space. I never give an answer the first time I'm asked, I've learned that lesson the hard way. Saying yes too much literally makes me sick. I need to say no out of necessity.

Thank you for the birthday wishes!
